Who Would Have Suspected the damage mold growth had done?
We were gathered together on a Friday night for our weekly Settlers of Catan match.
Six of us sat around a table in the back-house of my friend’s residence. Nothing unusual about it—we’d done this kind of thing many times in the past.
Midway through the game, after a surprise “monopoly” development card ruined our spirits, one of the players decided in favor of an aggressive “knight” strategy, taking largest army and leaving us in the dust.
Among the commotion of trade negotiations and future threats, we hardly heard the sound of the ceiling cracking or the slosh of guck that followed.
It was, all in all, a nightmare. We never finished the game as it was dumped in the trash.
Although it was a shock as it happened, we were all guilty and should have seen it coming.
We’d noticed the unusual black growth spreading and expanding, yet we never took the time to do anything about it. It turns out that the roof started leaking after a recent storm, which caused water build-up and (you guessed it!) mold growth. Not just any mold, but black mold, the worst kind possible.
After this incident, we all learned to be more cautious of what’s above our heads.
